VALID – hybrid testing, reliability of critical components & cost assessment

VALID – hybrid testing, reliability of critical components & cost assessment

Reliability and cost assessment of wave energy systems

The main role of Julia F. Chozas in VALID is to statistically evaluate the cost-effect of components’ reliability when integrated into the whole system. This will consider component’s failure rates and different approaches for maintenance strategies. It is the purpose to carry out a cost-assessment of each of the three case studies to reflect how the LCOE varies depending on the variations of components’ reliability.

About VALID

VALID is a  3-year funded project by the European Union’s Horizon2020 specifically designed to develop a Hybrid Testing Platform for accelerated testing by combining the virtual and physical environment. It is the project goal to reducing cost in the product developing process, tackle scaling challenges and lower uncertainties once fully demonstrated in the ocean.

VALID will use and adapt novel Hybrid Testing methodologies frequently used in the automotive industry through three different case studies that are specific to the ocean energy sector: CorPower, IDOM and Wavepiston. This will transform the fundamental approach to accelerated testing and will allow to establish the correlation between the ocean and the lab conditions.
