OpenORE

Open-source offshore renewable energy

OpenORE (www.openore.org) is a new website being developed by the International Network on Offshore Renewable Energy (INORE) that will allow users to share the tangible results of their research – that is, the data or code used to write papers. Users can upload code, models, projects, data, and media (anything digital) relating to offshore renewable energy, and make it freely available to others to use, modify, and improve upon in the spirit of open source.

OpenORE will host three basic categories of data:
• Static items – like experimental or environmental data sets or CAD models
• Code – full open-source software projects of just code snippets. Code will be linked/hosted though GitHub.com to allow for modification and subversion control.
• Links – links to other databases and software projects. OpenORE will connect and advertise for the breadth of open-source software projects and open-access databases that already exist or are being developed.
No restrictions shall be applied to the types of data uploaded. However, it is INORE’s expectation that the site will contain a significant amount of data related to computational models. Similarly, no limits shall be imposed on who can use and benefit from OpenORE, but initially, early-career researchers as embodied by INORE shall be the targeted niche.
To inform, engage, and solicit feedback from ORE community on the OpenORE project, a blog has been created at www.openore.org – details on the project can be found there.
